Chapter Seven

I hate him.

I hate him.

I hate him.

He drugged me.

He’s an asshole.

He’s keeping Nigel … somewhere.

Faith had to keep reminding herself why she hated Gabriel Finch. He was a bad man and he’d even admitted to doing a lot of bad shit. Faith didn’t have any idea who he was until Nigel had brought him to her door. Then she had her eyes opened to what the city was really like, and that was scary. She struggled to walk home and every little bang and bump startled her, so that wasn’t any fun. Then of course having to deal with Nigel. He hated when she tried to talk to him, to reason with him.

“Why can’t you just leave me alone? I’ve got my own life to live. No one wants to be alone and boring like you.”

That had been one of the many insults he’d thrown her way. She’d put up with it. Why not? He was her brother and she loved him so much, even if he did make her job hard in taking care of him. There was nothing she could do to stop him.

Tilting her head up to the shower, she let the warm water wash over her, and it soothed her just a little.

Gabriel told her he needed to make a phone call and promised he’d be right up as soon as he was done. She refused to be excited about him arriving.

Faith was determined to stay mad at him, but so far, that wasn’t exactly going to plan. They’d already had sex once, and then he’d taken her outside and they watched the sunset together.

Gabriel had pulled her into his arms, wrapping them around her waist, resting his chin on her shoulder. He’d randomly pressed kisses to her neck and shoulders and she couldn’t help but smile at just how sweet he was being.

The man was a complete contradiction to her. On the one hand, he was the guy forcing ultimatums on her. Then on the other, he was watching beautiful, serene sunsets with her. Which person was real? She had no idea. None of this made much sense to her. And now, she stood in a shower, waiting for him to arrive again.

I hate him.

Faith feared that was the truth. There was no way she could love him. No way, not ever.

The shower stall door opened, and her heart started to race.

“I’m sorry about that. Duty calls.”

“Is everything okay?” she asked.

“It is now.”

He wrapped his arms around her, and she felt the hard press of his cock at the base of her back. He was aroused again, for her. She couldn’t deny how much she loved that. She hated the man, but loved his reactions to her.

Do you really hate the man?

Shut up.

Of course she hated Gabriel. There wasn’t much to like, not really. He was a mean guy. A man used to getting what he wanted, no matter the cost, and she couldn’t abide by that—or could she? Faith had never been so confused in her life.
